Dental Health and Root Canals

In the past, if you had a tooth with a diseased nerve, you would probably lose that tooth. Problems with the teeth are a sign of something wrong going on not only in your mouth. If your teeth are not healthy, other not dental, especially digestive problems may occur. The digestive problem is immune because 90% of our immune protection is located in the digestive system.

Now in PDX Smile Design with a special dental procedure called root canal treatment, your tooth can be saved. Root canals are a relatively simple procedure involving from one to three visits to Dr. Victor Khlevnoy or Dr. Olga Dontsova who use a dental laser to make the procedure as gentle and painless as possible.

What is the purpose of a root canal?

You will lose sensitivity on this tooth, but you still will have your natural tooth functioning without the need for replacement. The presence or absence of a nerve will not affect the day-to-day functioning of the tooth. When a tooth is cracked or has a deep cavity, bacteria can enter the pulp and germs can cause an infection inside the tooth. It is very dangerous. If left untreated, an abscess may form. If the infected tissue is not removed, pain and swelling can result. This can not only injure your jawbones, but it is detrimental to your overall health.

What are the signs that a root canal is needed?

Teeth that require root canal therapy are not always painful, they might be extra sensitive. However, signs you may need a root canal include severe toothache, pain upon chewing or application of pressure, prolonged sensitivity, or pain in response to hot and cold temperatures. It’s always better to check early with Dr. Olga Dontsova or Dr. Victor Khlevnoy about the reasons for any teeth discomfort. Proper treatment may prevent complicated problems and would be friendlier on your wallet.
